Bike lanes France vs UK

I guess this sort of thing can work when you live in a country where every house isn't worth 10 billion zillion pounds.
It's not just the money, it's the red tape, Daily Mail sad face, court appeals...A large chunk of HS2 over budget is due to this with extortionate consultancy expenditure.
Just to add, that is a great picture

Slightly related:
I was cycling through Holland a few years ago and came to a tunnel under a big river. It made me a bit worried about cycling the bike through so close to the cars. As I got closer I realised I had a separate, dedicated tunnel. The costs must have been huge. Amazing and a completely different approach to the UK.
We did meet a dutch guy on the ride who has cycled Folkestone to Hull and it blew his mind we had no cycle lanes! Quite embarrassing

If they built the bike tunnel at the same time as the road tunnel, then the costs would have been tiny.I was cycling through Holland a few years ago and came to a tunnel under a big river. There's a new bike lane in Sussex, along the A27 from near Eastbourne towards Brighton. It's absolutely amazing, it's like it was designed and built by someone that rides, rather than someone following a "how to build a bike lane" text book. Part of the joy of it is that it in places it is a LONG WAY away from the A27, it feels like a lane in the country.
Anyway, the press at the grand opening featured the new £90 million plus cycle lane. They hid away the fact that improvements to the road that were done at the same time were something like £78 million.
They have separate cycle lanes in Kingston and sacrifice a car lane/narrower roads to free up the space needed.
Some cyclists still use the car lane because they say all the debris and dust is thrown from the car roads to the outer cycle lanes so that they are too dangerous to ride on.

Like the Clyde Cycle Tunnel?I was cycling through Holland a few years ago and came to a tunnel under a big river. It made me a bit worried about cycling the bike through so close to the cars.
