I've been boycotting them for making rubbish and expensive coffee for ages so no change for me, but just what on earth possesses someone to draw a cartoon then add scars as if the person depicted has had her breasts removed?!

There's a fair bit of corporations signalling their inclusivity credentials these days, and it'll only increase. In my opinion, it is simply part of their marketing and they only do it to boost profits. Rather than get annoyed at Costa's cartoon, I just see it as just another corporate strategy; a cynical boardroom ploy.

Edit: when I saw the thread title, I assumed it referred to an initiative by the Yorkshire tourist board, trying to boost visitor numbers to Scarborough or somewhere.

The mural was on a Van specifically for the Pride festival last year.

But if you want to get angry at cartoon characters on a Van for a specific event then crack on. You’re in lovely company with Laurence Fox.

I do want to get angry as I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those darn kids.

It's up there with "Monkey Tennis" in terms of potential TV programmes.

"Spain? Don't talk to me about Spain! It's rubbish! I spent many a happy holiday in Scarborough! It were great, I tell thee, bloody great!. Not as great as I was when i opened for England..."

Because GB News and the Daily Mail told them to be angry about it

I think it's the possibility that a cartoon character on the side of a van might turn a perfectly normal middle aged coffee drinking heterosexual male into a pan-sexual. or something.

I believe this week we should be mostly being mad at... trying to expand our market share through advertising to more people than just 45y/o white males. But if they see us doing it, it might hurt their feelings.
I'm rather cross at this censored weather we're having.

Grrrrr

O/T I don't think I've ever seen a picture of Toby Young where he isn't sneering, or about to sneer.

Think it is a bizarre ad what ever group it is targeting.

However if Costa produced a ad aimed at the white middle class male there would be plenty of groups angry so why can't this group be angry?

I met my first trans person on Sunday spent the day with then doing an event....them being trans had zero impact on my feelings towards then. Just like this advert has zero impact on my feelings towards Costa.

Which demographic are Costa's adverts usually aimed at?

Yeah, as other companies have found out at great cost advertising to white middle class men is a big no no.
