997.2 Purchase- Service History?
Discussion
About to buy a 997.2 and have agreed a price with the dealer. The car has full OPC service history, with the service book stamped at the right intervals and also stamps for fluid changes etc.
However, there is NO accompanying paperwork/invoices with the car. Just the stamped book.
Is this normal? Will it be an issue at resale?
I've never bought a "newish" car hence not really knowing how it works with these things!
Thanks

Easy to stamp a service book.
Would check MOT history and mileages in 1st instance to see if it vaguely adds up.
Then I would be phoning around dealers to see if they would confirm they did the service.
Some unscrupulous sellers out there hiding behind GDPR legislation as to why there is no accompanying paperwork

This is quite common, and it wouldn’t concern me at all, but if you’re really worried, you may be able to get some copy invoices with customer details redacted. A quick comparison with an MOT database should ensure all the mileages add up, and the dealer you’re buying from should be happy to spend a few hours on the phone calling the various dealers to get some invoice copies for you. Some dealers won’t play ball, and will hide behind GDPR regulations. However, there is NO accompanying paperwork/invoices with the car. Just the stamped book.

I almost fell for this twice on two separate car purchases . The trouble is you don’t really know the cars history in terms of maintenance and what it has been spent on it , how it has been cared for and looked after .
I actually ended up with the opposite in that my cars were accompanied by files full of bills and a true account of their history. It will certainly help you when it comes to resale .

There is no question that a meticulous and detailed history file like yours is preferred, but I certainly wouldn’t discount a car that doesn’t have it.I actually ended up with the opposite in that my cars were accompanied by files full of bills and a true account of their history. OPC say that these days due to technology and GDPR it is more normal for there not to be physical invoices/paperwork to accompany a car. Instead you can call OPC with V5 details and they will tell you all the work that has been done in the car's lifetime.
Makes sense and if true seems to allay my fears.

I had exactly the same thing happen when I bought my 997.2 from an OPC. I managed to track down the previous owner and spoke to him at length, he then contacted the OPC and gave them permission to give me the paperwork but it had been binned at that point and even though they promised to provide printouts of all the work it never materialised.
When I sold the car the lack of historical paperwork came up but wasn't really a barrier to sale.
