DO NOT. I repeat DO NOT increase your insurance premium.

For 20+ years I've been on the car scene and, 20+ years ago people said CAT Cars increase your insurance and, today... People are still saying they do on the internet!!!

Where are these people getting this info from?

To prove someone wrong AGAIN I did a quote on a comparison site for a CAT car and a clean car. Same spec, same model, same year. Guess what? Both quoted the same price!!!!!!!

Stop this nonsense already. it's fear mongering people for no reason. A clean car also don't mean it's clean. Plenty of people crash their car and grab cash of the person that crashed into them to prevent going through insurance.

The only time salvaged cars might make a difference is, if you crash it and need to go via insurance they MIGHT run a Hpi check and pay you out a little less but nowadays it's extremely rare as even auto trader give you a price guide for salvaged cars. Ie.. if a clean one is worth 10k. Cat car is usually worth 8k you get the discount from the get go, you then crash it and you might get paid out 2k less than a clean car would... MAYBE. Either way... You do not lose out!!!!

Rant over.

I guess that measured in a cost of policy vs potential payout ratio, the cost of insuring a CAT write-off is higher, because the payout for any subsequent write-off will be notably lower for your identical premium.

I have just been doing quotes for one of our cars on the two big comparison sites. I did them before I read this post . I don't recall being asked if a cat car or otherwise.
