Jim Gamsby - Kent TVR Organiser late 80's to 90's - NZ TVR

Sadly, TVR stalwart Jim Gamsby lost his battle with cancer in Auckland, New Zealand on Thursday morning. 3.8.23 aged 65 years.

Jim was a hardcore TVR disciple with enormous passion and knowledge for TVR.

He was a TVR Car Club organiser in Kent during the late 80's to early 90's before moving to NZ.

Jim owned many TVR models over his lifetime highlighted by a SEAC in the UK and still owns a 3000S Turbo which he imported to New Zealand when he immigrated in 1995. The 3000S Turbo is largely / partially restored following a fire in the UK.

He ran a dedicated TVR garage in both the UK and NZ. Jim is responsible for restoring a good number of the NZ TVR’s and helping many owners get their cars on the road here. He is also responsible for building the TVR community in NZ where he freely shared his passion and enthusiasm.

I thought this thread would be a good place for people that knew Jim to post pictures and add stories and memories here as a tribute. It would be great to learn more of his time in the UK.

Jim leaves behind 3 young children, his partner and a whole in the NZ TVR community. Unfortunately, the effects of his illness left him unable to work at an effective rate over an extended period which has further impacted his business in what was already a challenging climate. As a result, a give a little page has been set up by his well named friend Steve Griffiths to help support his children and assist with funeral costs. Any support from the TVR community would be greatly appreciated.

Jim’s Funeral will be held on Tuesday 8th of August at 2pm, Just Funerals, 51 Kirkbride Road, Mangere, Auckland.

Very saddened to read this.

I met Jim on a few occasions at the TVRCC track days at Goodwood in the early nineties, when he had his SEAC.

Nice person , friendly and always had a smile, as I remember.

One of my memories was seeing and hearing Jim piloting his ‘Rolling Thunder’ SEAC around Brands Hatch indy circuit. TVR imprinted through his body and soul.

I hadn’t spoken with him for a few years and when I did, he didn’t even mention this. Very sad to read this. Had some great times with him in Kent and still remember going around in his SEAC sitting on a milk bottle crate because he haven’t fitted the seats yet.

Sadly i never met him but most people seem to know his SEAC
i just purchased it last week
