Venom F5 Revolution Roadster launched

Hennessey has already introduced the Venom Roadster and Revolution coupe - time to meld them together...

Monterey Car Week is imminent, which means only one thing: a new Hennessey Venom F5 will be in California. This year it’s the turn of the Revolution Roadster, which combines the open body with the track focus of the Revolution Coupe. Plus, y’know, the 1,817hp…

This being Hennessey, everything about the Revolution Roadster is pretty extreme. Even the roof makes a Porsche 718 Spyder RS look like a Rolls Dawn, the single-piece carbon arrangement weighing just 8kg and secured with four bolts and pair of high-strength latches. Top speed hasn’t been quoted, though you probably wouldn’t want to do 250mph-plus with the roof off.

Hennessey says that the Venom F5 Revolution Roadster brings together the best bits of both the more focused coupe and the drop-top model; specifically, that’s ‘visceral open-air motoring with a racing circuit focus’. Even on something less extreme (all things being relative) like a McLaren 765LT Spider, the roofless track car is a pretty heady cocktail, so expect more of the same here.

Everything that marked out the Revolution hardtop has made it through the transition - see the huge splitters, new rear wing, chunky dive planes and air scoop - as well as the changes under the skin like retuned suspension. Quite what a two-wheel drive car with three times the power of a Huracan Sterrato and a circuit-focused chassis setup is like rather boggles the mind.

The Revolution Roadster is the fourth Venom F5 model; frankly, we’ve lost track of how many should have been made and which ones are sold out, but Hennessey says that a dozen of these will be made, they’ll cost from $3m, and they’re all spoken for. The car seen here and set for The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, on August 18th is a ‘Bare Carbon’ version. Of the 12 just five will be in this spec, featuring a carbon weave ‘methodically arranged in a herringbone pattern to accentuate the F5’s graceful lines.’

John Hennessey said: “The new Venom F5 Revolution Roadster combines our track-focused hypercar with an open-top for an unmatched visceral driving experience. This first example, a bespoke build for a special client, debuts our bare carbon finish with its meticulous handcrafted exposed carbon-fibre weave. Our hypercar is a timeless work of art that is as visually inspiring as it is physically engaging, thanks to its 1,817-hp combustion-only twin-turbocharged V8.” Expect all 12 to be finished just in time for 2024’s edition - that’s got to be the spoilerless one more suited to road driving, right?

Listening to a Venom being started for me at Blenheim last year was awesome. There is an amusing contrast between the aural ferocity of the car and the pleasant, unassuming nature of the two young Hennessy brothers.

Bugs me that a car that costs gazillions has six bolts around the rear windscreen panel. Surely they could have done something better than that...

Thanks to their well documented shady (and most likely illegal) practices, crass and vulgar forum comments, and general snake oil aroma, Hennessey can release a car that does 400mph and 40mpg and I still wouldn’t be interested in them.

I’m actually more baffled (and disappointed) that they get press coverage on sites like Pistonheads (but I guess you need to pay the bills)

I mean great but ... I dunno why but I'm just not bothered by it.

It's got to be super special to be worth that much and I'm just not sure it is that special. Sure it'll sell it's limited run though.

Wow - third post: I was at least expecting it to be the 8th before someone brought up this tired old chestnut again.

Yeah but thing is it's true. I should love this it's wild v8 250 mph rocket but nah just doesn't do it for me if I had the £3m then Aston Mercedes Ferrari Pagani etc could make me something. I guess it's a case of not which one to pick rather which don't you want.

Just looks like a kit car to me. Madness paying $3m if you ask me (appreciate, you're not...).

The original Venom was a fantastic looking thing - loved the Exige on steroids proportions.

I can never tell if these are real or not. How many customer cars have shipped to genuine customers, not middlemen / sale or return merchants etc?

Yeah, that was a decent looking car to be fair. Just the right amount of aggression mixed with form; like a Mk1 Focus RS, an E46 CSL or a Challenge Stradale.

Besides the companies shocking history, I'm somewhat sad to say this car does nothing for me. May be I'm just getting older or simply can't appreciate it but if I had to spend the sort of bucks Hennessy are asking I'd feel a lot happier buying from Koenigsegg.

Mate, you wasted all that time to try make a point - just to drag up articles which are OVER TWENTY YEARS OLD??

I'm not trying to 'champion' anyone (don't know how my post gave that impression, but you carry on doing you I guess!), as even IF I was in the market for something like this, I'd never buy American over European.

Regardless, people who do actually buy his stuff are apparently very happy with it, as I don't think he'd still be selling them the same 'snake oil' more than 20 years later if they weren't!

Peace brother.

He's right though! They should be BANNED and never spoken of henceforth ever again, just like TVR! In fact I think PH should make a public statement apologizing for their TVR orientated past, before closing up shop out of shame. Then salmanorguk could rest easy, knowing that justice had been served.

On the other hand, the original venom was reported by at least a couple of knowledgeable people to be one of the best driving super/duper/hyper cars ever made. So these new versions might be the greatest thing most of us will never drive. But they should be banned anyway so who cares.
