Alternator lights comes on, then out after a couple of mile.
Discussion
Hi
I changed the belt a few weeks ago, due the slippage on the old belt. There was a screech from the belt on start-up, which disappeared after a couple of miles.
Having changed the belt, I am now getting the alternator light on for 1-2 miles. Although when the revs increase the light goes out and comes back on when the revs decrease. After a mile or two the light stays out.
Is this indicating a fault in tensioner? Or a fault in the alternator?
Also within the last month, I have had problems with a flat battery. I narrowed this down to a faulty relay on interior light (I haven't put the new relay back in yet, the old is removed). Although I have also changed the battery, as the old battery was dropping half it's charge within a couple of days with nothing connected to it!
With all these problems, I am starting to think that my fault diagnosis is the problem here! And I am not getting to the root!
Are these signs that the alternator is on its way out also?
I want to get this sorted, as I am booked to go to Snetterton on Saturday. I am just anxious, as on my last track day at Oulton, I missed out most of the morning session due to a snapped throttle cable. I also intended to go to Donnington a couple of weeks ago, but was stopped by the flat battery.
Please help! I don't want to miss another track day!
Thanks
Dave

When my 100amp fuse went it did so in the manner you describe. If you look at one it is quite a wide piece of metal which rather than just breaking in one go can often deteriorate gradually over a few days. Of course, your problem could be many other things, but checking that fuse is a quick(ish) and easy place to start....
not immediate, but following someone elses posting, I got a job lot from here:
