Bitcoin wallet?
Discussion
Can you guys give any suggestions of the safest way to store BTC?
heard 'Unstoppable' is a good option for iOS, but a more local drive solution is surely a necessary back up?
I remember horror stories of some guy who had a shed load of BTC on a bricked hard drive...... ooops.
I'm pretty new to this malarkey, we are being paid for some consultatcy work in BTC...
What means are there of validating & how do i know im not getting magic beans
what could possibly go wrong?

Please don't use a hot wallet, or software wallet if you are storing any significant amount. Much higher risk of losing your Bitcoin. Buy a good hardware wallet and a steel plate for inscribing your seed phrase.
Ledger used to be the one that I would recommend to most folks but if you are only looking to store bitcoin safely get a Bitbox or a Blockstream Jade

Also, when you receive Bitcoin to your wallet you can know that it is genuine because that's how the network works. It's trustless. You don't have to rely on trusting someone else that it is genuine, the tens of thousands of nodes on the network all agree that it is genuine.
Secondly, when you receive it you can trace it back using a block explorer (https://www.blockchain.com/explorer) by pasting in the transaction ID
