I was having an issue with the button not opening the boot on my 2000yr Mk1 Tuscan.
I used the usual method to open the boot, and found the solenoid was buggered.
I replaced the solenoid with a unit from RaceTech, and thought I had solved it (clever me!)

Fast forward a couple of weeks, and this solenoid has packed up too (not so clever me!)
I sent it back, and the nice guys at RaceTech took it apart and told me that the innards were burned out - like it was being constantly operated, so this clearly isn't a problem with the solenoid, but something else.

It's not the button, as I've put a multimeter on it, and it operates correctly when pressed (but isn't sticking).

Someone told me that power doesn't go directly from the button to the solenoid, so it may be going through a 'controller box' or similar?

I don't think it matters, but the button isn't on the back of the badge, but modded to be just above the numberplate.
It's a standard M0751 Door Mirror Switch

Forgive my ignorance, I'm really not electrically minded, but trying to have a go, instead of just 'paying the man'

Anyone got any ideas please?

Mike

The boot opening function is managed by the passenger door ECU, tucked away under the very front of the centre console.

I had a bit of an investigatory dig a few weeks back when I had an intermittent boot opening fault (eventually traced to chafed wiring to the solenoid - at least I sorted that and it works fine now!) - if I recall, the pax side ECU was actually on the drivers side and vice versa for ease of cabling orientation, I'm guessing. You can tell which is which because one has a couple of extra pins in the plug for the boot function. Checking what's going on there might be worthwhile. The ECUs are interchangeable, if you want to see if there's any difference in fucntion by swapping them over.

ah - Thanks Pete.
I've seen those when I was sorting a driver's door opening issue - I didn't realise one of them also managed the boot closing too?

Do you know if these are still available to replace?
( I think it might be time!

They can be repaired - Jody at Python Racing being one that spings to mind - and there are a number of firms / people doing it. Plenty of threads on ECU repairs within the TVR forum - they are shared between various models.
