New 125 motocross bike. Need advice

I am in need of advice as i have just sold my Kawasaki Kx 85 and am looking to get a bigger 125 bike but the question is which one??? there are so many to choose from- (KTM, KX,CR,YZ, RM) if you have any advice it would highly appreciated. Also there is a Cr 125 (03 model) for sale from a dealer close to me would this be worth having a look at are CR's any good?

From my experience (20 yrs leisure motox, 2 yrs club racing) i wouldnt say there is alot between them, will you be racing it ? If you liked your KX85, you may prefer to stick with Team Green, i have run all 4 Jap makes and many others like Husaberg etc What i would say about Honda is the build quality and ergonomics are top class. Another question is do you want to stick with 2 stroke ? what about the 4 stroke CRF250 instead of the CR125, whatever you chose the CR125 is a very good bike for most abilities.

Thanks for your reply Alan, No i am not going to be racing the bike just useing it for practising and getting out with my friends on their bikes. The only thing that is bothering me about the CR bikes is because of past exsperience. Two of my friends had CR's and they both broke nearly all the time (mind you they were a 1994 model and an 1998 model!). The one i am ment to be going to look at is a 2003 model thats ment to be mint condition

make sure you ask about history,things like swing arm bearings,wheel bearings,piston etc
these things take a hammering, and owners sometimes get rid instead of replacing due to the lack of knowledge on maintenance
i have 3 old bikes sat in my garage,and they will laat forever if looked after

Everybody will have differing experience with the top 4 jap bikes. To be honest there isnt much between the 125s unless you are racing them and crave more bottom end, midrange or top end to suit your style of riding. its all down to personal taste and whether you stick to the make you are used to or fancy a change to another make. Ask about the history of the bike, you can usually tell by the condition if it has been raced, best to avoid raced bikes as they tend to use them for a season or 2 and then trade them in, ask when the piston and rings were changed or whether the dealer has inspected them when the bike came in,ideally you want a bike that has just been used for leisure, with the bike been not that old you shouldnt have too many problems as long as its not been abused. as with all motox bikes when they get older they need alot more attention and money spending on them. Honda's do tend to be priced at a slightly higher premium price than the other Jap 3, so you may say get a younger bike for the same money,
have a good look round the dealers and find one with a good history and in mint condition - they do exist - good luck
