Someone i know has brought his family up to Scotland in a Sprinter van, him and the two kids up front (with them in car seats) and the Mrs and luggage in the back. No seats in the rear, we're talking a regular van with some cushions to sit on.

I'm guessing a NIP with 3 points if caught for carrying more passengers than homologated for but could there be insurance complications too?

It's a company van he's allowed to use out of business hours by his employers.

I'd be amazed if the company would have knowingly allowed him to carry more people than the vehicle has seats for. So not only is it a totally stupid thing to do. It brings in not only insurance issues, but employment issues as well.

Could have at least strapped an armchair in there for her.

Interesting if it would be the driver who would be charged or the (over 13 year old) passenger.

Happy memories!!

1972 going from Gateshead to London for the Bike show - Transit van with 3 in the front on the bench seat and 4 of us in the back on deckchairs, sliding about all over the place. Those in the back had the additional view of the road and white lines underneath the van, viewed through the holes on the floor.

The trick is to train the kids to yell out which way the upcoming corners are so she can stop the luggage sliding to the other side of the van.

Whatever it is, it's more pointed than the above pointless moan, which is itself more pointy that this pointless moan about a pointless moan, all this pointlessness it's just pointless.

The French slang term for roof-box is boite de bonne mere

Back in the early nineties, when I still had rock star aspirations, we used to tour Europe for weeks in a selection of decrepit vans. The van would be loaded with the band gear, then a selection of filthy mattresses chucked on top, then off we would go, three in the front and up to six in the back. Happy days.

This is when there were border points between European countries, non of the border guards ever batted an eyelid as a stream of pale northern monkeys spilled out of the van.

Driver.

I can remember years ago my dad taking me and my sister in the back of his works van going over some bumps trying to get us to hit our head on the roof...

Unsurprisingly he always had nine points on his licence.

Took a berlingo all the way to Milan a few years ago. Non stop journey.
It was the 3 seats in the front version.
Middle seat is tiny in reality.
As we were all adults one choose to lay on a mattress in the back.
All was good until a random stop by the Swiss police.
They laughed it off and sent us on the way, all seated up front.

Obviously it's wrong whichever country your in but as adults you all know the risk.
Plus he was soon in the back again as he had the comfiest journey.
