As part of a 5 day road trip from Chelmsford to Northumberland visiting the other halves family, and then across to Scarbrough ( popping in to Bangars and Cash there), I'm left with a 235 mile journey back down the A1M/ A14 pm the 4th/5th day, having done 120 miles earlier that morning.I don't fancy nigh on 350 miles in one day,so does anyone have any ideas for a nice overnight stopover hotel not too far off the route back down, even better if there's something car related close by!
(I've already done the British car Journey, and I'm maybe thinking more the east side of the route, but thats not set in stone).
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you're not in a hurry, I would suggest Scarborough - Bridlington - Beverley - Humber Bridge - then pickup the A15 and trundle southwards on that.

Lincoln is a lovely city, but still a fair way from Chelmsford; Stamford is a nice town and nearer to your half-way point.

Rutland Water is only 5 mins from the A1.

There's Oakham for accommodation or stay at the Rutland Hall Hotel & Spa for a chill.
Not stayed there myself but looks ok.

Or as above stay in Stamford which is very nice.

That would be like a desolate zombie apocalypse road trip movie... with the violent third act occurring after missing the turn off on the Beverly bypass and ending up in Bransholme.

As per above, there are plenty of b&bs around. Being a local I can recommend a few if you fancy the area.
