Disappointingly, this happened when I dropped it onto a carpeted floor.

I can send it back to Montblank for a “service” I believe, but I suspect it could be repaired with the right adhesive and polish. Does anyone know how to do it?

Many thanks.

That's a shame - I have done similar - while I am no guru with the glue I will say that all my attempts to fix have failed. The leverage I apply when writing (ie pressing down the pen while it's resting in my hand) simply defeats the glue - i've used everything I can reasonably find from simple superglue (no chance) to mixed resins (also no chance).

I suspect if done properly you may have a fighting chance but not in my experience I am afraid. Good luck.

I don't think it's worth sending for service. Think you'd find it a waste of money. Sorry to see what happend. I have one and it's my pride and joy.

Send it back, they'll return it with a new barrel. I gave up on Mont Blanc after the barrel on mine split for the fourth time. Nice things, made nowhere near their price point ime.

TO each their own, but thats really not my experience, Ive got a JFK and James Dean fountains that get daily use and abuse, along with a vintage Monte Rosa thats equally excellent and gets bashed about in my work bag without hiccup (along with a couple of rollerballs (Prodict Red Marc Newson, Rouge et Noir))

The cap on mine broke at the top of the tread after a couple of years... I loved it but won't be getting another.

This one is 25 years old and has kicked around in my briefcase most of that time. No issues. Drop it on the carpet however and that happened.

If you know the model number, eBay may throw up a suitable lower barrel; i.e. > https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165470382615

Have you checked with a decent Montblanc dealer, a repair not a service was surprisingly not bad.
They just replaced the broken bit.

Very true - had similar with a Cartier pen after my dog decided it was actually a chew toy, not a fountain pen - pleasantly surprised how little it cost

The pen doesn't look like a piston filler 146 or 149 so a repair might be possible. I am guessing that it is a 145, also known as a Classique or in a special edition model called a Chopin?

Personally I wouldn't mess about, if you can buy a replacement barrel for these models then perfect, maybe MB will sell you a new barrel?

A repaired/glued MB will be worth very little.

If I am wrong and it's a piston filled pen send it to MB Uk, they will probably send it to Hamburg to be fixed, typically three weeks and £100+

It's a rollerball and classique rings a bell.

I intend to take it into MB when I am next in the Big Smoke and see what they say. Our local MB agent it Chisholm Hunter, who have not been altogether straightforward to deal with in the past.

Ah ok. You can deal with the MB repair centre by mail but yes, taking it in to a boutique is good, I use the one in the Royal Exchange. It is a simple parts purchase really, maybe they can order a barrel without sending the pen away.

I have looked on pen board.de and the eBay seller and nothing is listed for your pen, there is also an etsy seller but I don't have access to that site.

It occurs to me that it is just possible that the cost of a new barrel plus mailing costs may be more than the pen is worth or would cost to replace by a good secondhand pen on eBay. You might need to take a view on that. For example there is a refurbished MB 163 rollerball on eBay for £60.

It's 'value' is of little consequence if you have no intention to 'flip' it. I suspect the OP wants to carry on using it given it's 25yrs old.

My experience of MB repair many years ago was very good. My MS ballpoint pen split at the threads. I went into the MB shop and they replaced the relevant part for a reasonable cost.

I don't think that mb will repair the barrel, it will be replaced. They didn't even clean the ink stained insides of my 146 barrel, just charged for a replacement.

Okay by way of a conclusion to this story. I was in London today, so took the broken pen into Mont Blanc on Bond Street.

They replaced the broken barrel at the price of about £60 (£81 including a pack of refills).

Altogether quite pleased with that.
