Hi all

I've noticed the sump gasket is leaking on my shed 106. I'm no mechanic and haven't really done my own spannering before but I figure on a basic car like this, now is the time to learn so I figured I'd do this myself.

I purchased some of this: https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/p/carplan-instant-...

and a gasket: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291897803869

What is the best way to go about this. A lot of people I've seen replacing sump gaskets on YouTube just use sealant but I always thought it best to use a gasket

I was going to use some of the instant gasket to bond the actual gasket to the sump and then mate the two parts together but now I'm wondering whether I should just use the sealant?

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers
Jim

Unless it's something old most cars don't have gasket on the sump they are nearly Allways a sealent/gaskets type compound these days

Ah ok I'll just give it a go with the sealant

It's a 2002 106 1.1 so nothing special!

Use a new gasket with a smear of RTV silicone sealant on both sides.
Before you do this job give it a good clean up and some more mileage to make sure it really is the sump gasket leaking. Those TU engine sumps don’t normally leak.?

I’d check the sump for rust, when my Pug sprung a leak it was a couple of stone chips that had corroded through.

It doesn't look rusty but the seal doesn't look that great and it's bathed in oil under there.

Unfortunately I didn't realise the downpipe has to come off in order to get the sump off so it's going to be a garage job so I apologise for wasting all of your time replying!

I'm very much a newbie to all this but decided now is as good a time as ever to do some basics like oil, filters, sparks etc

When the sump pan is off, get them to wash it all out and clean the oil pick up filter.
