Free money from Bank of Ireland (IT Blunder)

This evening, an IT glitch at the Bank of Ireland has given some customers unexpected additional funds. More specifically, "other customer's funds" as it appears some customers have reported having a zero balance.

Some "savvy" customers have transferred the newly added funds to their revolut accounts and begun withdrawing via the ATMs.

The stupidity of some people astounds.Doesn't surprise me, though; we're with them for business. Absolutely awful and will likely move away when switching our LLP across to ltd.
People think oh loads of people are doing it so it'll be harder for the bank to track us all down, they'll let us keep it.
No, it'll be EASIER to do it with that many and that much involved they'll actually need to reclaim those funds and will have a whole team working on it. It's not like you got an extra tenner out and they'll turn a blind eye.

I guess they waited until they nailed down what the actual cause was. Switching off mobile/internet banking for all their customers would have caused more of an issue I imagine. Same with disabling funds withdrawals, can't disadvantage all their genuine customers over some scrotes. I really wonder how dim some people are. Go to a cash machine, punch in your account details, withdraw far more cash than you have? What exactly do people think will happen - the bank won't know, or won't know who withdrew it, or won't just correct the mistake and debit your account putting you in overdraft, or won't be asking for it back?
I read these stories and about how outrageous it is that some people think its unreasonable to assume that the general population aren't all honest and law abiding citizens but when the opportunity arises it's quite surprising how often it turns out a good number aren't at all honest and are quite prepared to be an opportunist thief!
Even my mother has done it. The checkout at B&Q, bought 10x some garden lights and the staff member made a mistake and only put one through. Mum was surprised how small the bill was and checked the receipt while putting them in the car. Yep, charged for only one. Did she go back... not at all, their fault, quite happy to effectively nick them before heading off to an old peoples lunch group at the church hall!

So they have virtually zero in their accounts, they take our €1,000 and will be left with c. - €1,000. When their next paycheck/benefits lands they can't access the funds as they are overdrawn, so being drunk/off your tits on drugs this weekend, means 2 months of no money. Live for the moment!

But anyone who thought they were quids in is in for a rude awakening. I do find it a bit funny that people do think "free money" and waste it.
Biggles, I wouldn't be so hard on your mother. I've tried to be honest in the past and it has created more bother than it's worth. I don't want to give up an hour of my Sat/Sun for their mistake. I'd have felt a bit guilty but walked with the goods these days in a large store. I wouldn't in a local independent but that's unlikely to happen anyway.
