I'm going to be doing various jobs soon that require removal of the sump. engine covers etc and so will be scraping off the old sealants to do so. Rather than grab whatever makeshift instruments I might have hanging around the garage I figured I might as well buy a 'proper' tool but was surprised when searching for 'gasket scraper' that they all seem to be metal - is this to be expected? I seem to recall Haynes manuals and other guides all warning about accidental damage to the mating faces and so was expecting somewhat softer-but-still-hard-enough materials to being offered?
