I want to order a car part that is £1350 here but only £1000 in Germany (inc VAT). If i have it shipped to the UK, I might be charged VAT and Import but would still be better off. Is there anyway of claiming the German IVA at all?

You send it to this forwarding warehouse in Germany, so when you purchase, you are able to give the shipping address as a German address. You then have a selection of couriers to choose from to get it delivered to your home.

I have used it at least 50 times and they are fantastic.

I was a little dubious/nervous at 1st, and paid an extra fee for photos to be taken when the parcel arrived at the German mailbox but no need, these guys are a slick operation.

Yup yer screwed - ever since brexit you are far more likely to get whacked with not only import duty but possibly vat and more likely that not, a customs handling charge by the courier. If you’re trying to save £350 I would say don’t bother just suck it up and buy it in the UK as you may end up paying even more going thru the import hassle not to mention the never ending wait of when it will or wont get thru the customs process.

Last item i ordered from EU i swore will be the last. The trouble is some specific items simply cant be bought in the UK so now we end up with less choice, or indeed going through the pain of the import process.l to get that special item.

I think posts like this should have an obligatory starting sentence - “I voted Remain / for Brexit”, in which case if its the latter we can all just say well you got what you voted for! For the record I voted remain wink

It's Carbon Fibre so not sure I want to risk it. Have a German friend who offered but same issue.

Remain, and I have an EU Passport!

TBH I would only save if I could claim back the German VAT as well. Otherwise it gets into the realms of saving 50 or 60 quid. As you say not worth the hassle.

I ordered a pair of rear dampers for the RR from Dusseldorf about 2 months back. Arrived within 3 days perfect. Could have bought similar price in UK but the seller were having a 15% discount so saved me a few quid.

No import, no customs, experience just if from UK seller.

Meanwhile, over in the Brexit thread, the headbanging cretins are arguing the Horsemeat scandal was justification enough for leaving. Fwiw, I ordered an expensive (£4.5k) moutain bike from Spain & got walloped for import duty. I knew it was coming & lucky me, I could put it through my business. What a stshow.

Remain, would vote again.

Ah, got it. Just another thread to moan about Brexit. Obviously you weren't really serious about importing it due to it being carbon fibre. I'm in the remain camp too BTW, but I know a 'Brexit = bad' thread when I see one.

So they will post to all 167 other non-EU countries but not the UK?

Direct purchase and I'd buy it, through a middle man where potential for breakage and difficult in ascertaining blame...no.

Welcome to the Brexit, sir.

Seems to be pretty common on the continent despite an army of Brexit voters on the Brexit threads insisting it's definitely really easy for them to sell to us and they're all just being awkward.

You're stuffed unfortunately.

I’ve found this with watches that I’ve tried to import from the USA, some dealers over there specifically state they will not send a watch to the UK. Don’t understand why though?

Don't they need to register for VAT in the UK now? I would guess if you don't sell much to people in the UK it isn't worth the hassle.

Sounds moronic enough for this government to have introduced!
