My hand decided to go through the rear window of the car whilst I was cleaning it last night!

I have had quotes from Car Hood Warehouse and Soft-Tops for restitching a new window in (£200). Soft-Tops said that they have done alot of Chimaera's. Can anyone comment on the quality of the job?

Factory did mine after unfortunate accident at dealer whilst servicing. Hadn't heard of this problem until then, heard of quite a few since. Dealer had to remove hood and send to Blackpool. Took a few days inc. posting. Reasonable job but canvas got torn at Blackpool when they peeled it off the hood frame thingy so they had to stitch that up and match stitching on otherside as well. Never had this trouble with my old midgets/elans/B/7's etc. Maybe they should use some of Teds threads, they seem stronger...

I think the hood has to be removed and stitched on a jig to do it properly, so labour is a fair whack.

I was quoted £200 ish last year and decided to try and repair it myself (about 18" of stitching I think). Worked OK, not as neat inside as proffesional but fine. I heard after that some do it cheaper, Peninsula I think was £120ish?

Is it the the stitching that has gone? if so, why don't you have a go at re-stitching yourself? Mine did the same, so I got hold of some strong thread/big needle and did it myself. Only meant to be a temp repair, but it still looks fine.

Peninsula charged me £150. Initially it was a bit difficult to press the struts home but has loosened up a little with time.
The stitching looks good.
I am not sure about the plastic quality though - it is thicker than the previous one as it doesn't fold easily, and looks like the creases don't disappear fully when it is put up after having been folded. Time will tell.
