I had a bumper replaced by a local garage in Poole in 2021 (authorised repairer).

I was cleaning last year and noticed the head lights had become loose, after looking the cheeky bgger had managed to knacker the screw connection on the lights as it was the same on both lights.

Anyway I emailed and was asked to come in but never did in the end based on the aggro.

Lighting has struck twice and I have a non fault accident claim going through them to replace the bumper again.

I've mentioned the issue with the lights and that now I have the opportunity to fix them I've been exchanging with the assessor to sort the latest insurance work and he has said the lights wouldn't be covered under warranty but they'd review when I take it down.

This is only an email exchange at the moment, do I have a honest case to get the lights sorted here?

I doubt it especially as you have made them aware but couldn’t be bothered to take it for them to look at.

At a guess you probably wouldn’t have bothered if you didn’t have to go back in again.

Sometimes grumps life gets in the way and other priorities take hold.

The repair warranty that most of these bodyshops provide is worthless...as is their quality certificat.

I got mine back with disconnected handbrake, damaged diff (from the accident) and misaligned clutch which made getting into 1st/2nd gear quite difficult.

Bodyshop told be to bugger off as they'd quoted & been paid for the amount of work they did...and the insurance company told me to sort it out with the bodyshop using their warranty.

The bodyshop closed down 6 months later so never got them to resolve it, and the insurance company picked up 75% of the £4k bill for the new diff, handbrake repairs and clutch alignment.

Looking back, it seems they bodyshop under-reported the damage to keep the bill under the write-off threshold...but that meant leaving some bits off. After all the hassle and arguments getting it back to 100%, I wish they'd just written it off...but then the bodyshop wouldn't have been able to make some easy money out of it.

That doesn't square with them closing down! Bodyshops have longed complained they get paid buttons by insurance companies.

Maybe there were too many complaints?

Maybe the insurance company took them off their approved list?

Maybe they knew they were on borrowed time and wanted to screw the insurance company for as much as possible in the meantime?

Who does the assessor work for - the insurance company or the body shop?

I don't know how universal this is, but repairs organised through our insurer, LV=, are guaranteed for as long as you own the vehicle.

Assessor works for the Body Shop.

I shouldn't had given him the question tbh and should had sorted it separately to the quote for work.

There isn't a body shop near me other than this repairer so im a bit stuffed tbh.

Absolute pain in the rectum all of this alongside arranging a repair.

Well thought I'd update this post as I got the car back today.

I was delighted to see lovely new taillights installed.

Whether this was down to the fact they had to do the same removal again and couldn't blag it OR they remembered/listened to my original whinge I'm not really sure.

The estimator works for the bodyshop........the assessor works for the insurance company

I’d guess they just told the insurance company they were damaged in the accident and needed replacing. So the insurance company paid for them twice

Sounds like it.

No questions asked...it's now one less amount of aggro I don't need at the moment!

Oh did I....but I also said I had the bumper redone so you should had just realised it was a mistake let it go and not seek trolling opportunities.
