Since when was this a thing?

I answer the door, a parcel leant up against the doorframe, a yodel delivery person then takes my photo before walking off! Caught me off guard.

Are they allowed to do that?, sounds a bit weird/creepy TBH.

I’ll be more wary next time & tell them to do one!

They are taking a photo of the front door open with the parcel next to it, as proof of delivery.

No photo, no parcel. You can thank all the people that deny theyve had it, when theyve decided they want to put one on ebay and keep one for the same price. ALL us couriers do it now.

For the last 2-3 years. Normal to take a photo as evidence.
They usually do not get your mugshot, just your door open and maybe feet or hands on parcel at most.

No problem then taking a photo of the parcel/door open
But i’d prefer not to have paparazzi on my doorstep obviously taking my picture without permission!
I’m big enough & ugly enough for it not to matter, but still annoying

Definitely not taking my/your photo, simply a door being opened and parcel placed outside. Don’t stand too close, or potentially will include a shot of your shoes/legs.

One of our drivers said he didn't want a photo of my face, but if I'm holding it, so much the better, so box and hands, showed me the pic.
Not got a problem with that, rather that than the claim they called - or left the parcel somewhere safe

Did this not start with covid to avoid having to touch an electronic signature didgeridoo? Seems to have been a while now. Most of our photos feature our dog shouting at the driver.

I'm another that doesn't see an issue with this. No need to touch the esignature device that who knows who has previously touched & there's a record of what the parcel looked like when you received it protecting the driver & yourself from any potential later issues.

Or one of these

I also don't get this weird obsession with people having their photos taken. So what? I go out in a public place with thousands of other people who can see me and nothing happens. It just seems like one of those 'because my rights/privacy' thing that is so prevalent now but which no-one gave a st about a few years ago. And which is utterly pointless.

It’s to stop people like you bhing and moaning about your parcel not being delivered!

This. I've offered to hold parcels for couriers, but they ask for it to be held so that my face isn't included in the photo, just the open door and generic bits of me like hands/feet/legs.

I presume this is because if they take a picture of your face and store the file along with your name and address they somehow become responsible for all kinds of GDPR admin? Maybe "keeping the customer's face out of it" avoids that burden? Just a guess. Even Royal Mail do it now. I took a parcel in for my neighbour yesterday and the address label had the instruction 'Photo Only' in the space where you normally see 24/48 Tracked/Signed For/etc.

A lot of the delivery drivers do it now, a pic of you holding the parcel on the doorstep, absolutely no issue for me.

It started as contact free delivery during covid but it saves a few secs per delivery so they kept it.

Unless you are an escaped prisoner or a Russian spy I can't see a problem.

Covers them and covers you.

You should be more concerned about the people who take your picture and you don't realise it.

What's likely to happen, though?
