Sorry, search is broken at the mo and I'm sure this will have been asked before but...

Does the 111S have ABS like the 111R? Or does it have the nice hard brake peddle for easier heel-and-toeing?

Think somebody once found that ABS is an optional extra for the S but nobody has ever installed it

111s doesn't have ABS as standard and does requrie a fair bit of weight to really work, i find particularly bad in wet when still cold, but i guess most brakes are

There was no ABS on the 111S. It requires a front bodywork mod (different clam?) to fit the brake servo, sensors on the hubs etc.

I'm quite fond of the idea of not having the ABS:
I test drove a 135R, and the pedal felt better than in the Exige I took out straight after. But I learnt to drive without servo assistance, and my first car was an old mini without the giggery-pokery too, so I'm a bit odd.

Have a 111s Mk2. No ABS - indeed until the 111r I can't recall any elises having ABS - but braking is fairly progressive and the car stops on a dime. One of the best upgrades I found for the non-ABS system was to replace the brake lines with braided steel lines. ~ £55 to buy (see eliseparts). That really seems to take away any initial sponginess on the brake feel. It makes the system a little more precise and easier to modulate.

Heel toe is not a problem, but the pedals are close together so you need narrow shoes or racing boots. A day out with Andy Walsh at 1st lotus will be worth your while. He has a DVD as well - "bending the rules" - rather brief, but gives you the basic idea. If you are even considering a return to British sports cars, I am well chuffed with my time in the lotus and the lotus community as a whole. It will take a long time to lose the smile on your face!

Got his DVD for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. Very good, but as you say, very brief. And I felt that you needed to have a good idea of what he was talking about before you could make head or tail of it.
