I like VB, I think he did a better job at Mercedes with Hamilton than Perez is doing now with Verstappen. Away from the F1 he's handy on a bike, he's got a good sense of humour and he's a good bloke.

He's having a lot of fun outside F1 but I think he could still be dropped into a top car and give good results.

I never understood the logic of having Perez if Bottas is available. Great qualifier, but rarely a problem for the superstar driver in the race. Still close enough to be strategic threat to the opposition. A great tail gunner. Doesn´t play media games against his own team and team mate.

Bottas is a fantastic driver, did a great job at Mercedes, I thought Russell acted dreadfully that day after he crashed into Valtteri showed a complete lack of class having run out of race craft in a straight line.

20 pole positions, 67 podiums and 10 wins is good record and puts him in the Webber/Coulthard camp as one of the best number 2 drivers.

And unlike DC and Webber he has never crashed with the number 1 driver. Or at least with his teams number one driver... :-)

But he was pretty good at redbull skittles into the first corner that time in Hungary if I recall correctly not many could have pulled that off it was like a trick shot. biggrin

This thread should be interesting, given the vitriol from some that Bottas got on this thread:

Is Bottas holding Hamilton up so successfully as Perez did in Abu Dhabi 2021?

Bottas IMO is on a similar level to Perez, little to choose between all things considered. Bottas probably a bit faster over a lap, Perez the better racer. Either one of them could retire and by reaction would pretty much be "hmm interesting we get a new driver now".

I think he's great, he's funny, self deprecating, doesn't take himself too seriously and that calender is hilarious.

Brilliant sense of humour. How many times must he have heard that phrase the other way around, knowing it was unlikely to result in a more positive result for himself? Love the calendar as well, I might buy one and give it to my wife for Christmas, as it’s for charity!

It’s always good to see someone’s true personality come out when the top level of pressure is no longer there - we’ve seen the same with Alonso as well in the last couple of years, somewhat surprisingly, and there’s even politicians who come across as okay people once they’re out of Parliament.
