The threads running about the killer nurse and her sentance has got me thinking.
There is alot of talk about the death sentence for her, this isnt about that. But it made me think.
My question is, what do you think happens when you die?
Do you either go to heaven or hell, maybe its just heaven.
Personaly i think it just stops, and you just stop thinking and beeing.

You are no longer a sentient being. Nothing. One second alive, then the next nothing. No consciousness whatsoever. The End.

No Heaven...No Hell. Fairy Tales created by Religion.

You forgot reincarnation!

The only certainty is that we'll all find out one way or another eventually. In meantime, all we have is faith in science or faith in scripture.

As a firm believer in reincarnation I'm going to have "Many Happy Returns" carved on my headstone smile

There is nobody alive who can tell us, so who knows? It's all about what YOU believe.

(Apart from those who claim they were dead for 20 minutes who were brought back from the dead by medical staff)

It's nice to think you will meet all your old friends "on the other side" but I can't see it myself.

Do you remember the time before you were born? It's exactly like that.

I've decided that when I cark it I'm going to be cremated and then the ashes put into fireworks for a proper final send-off (apologies in advance to those with pets).

You're gone, no more. That's it. Back to the nothing from where we all came. Atoms from you will end up in other organisms, a few people may remember you for a generation or two, computers might keep a record of you for a little longer. Soon there will be no one alive who ever knew you and no one alive who you ever knew of.

People will forever hope for something else, but this is it.

Do you have children? It's strange how so many young children talk about 'when we were in heaven before we were born'. It's something which as adults we forget, but I know I'm not the only parent who has had similar conversations with their children. It could be supressed memories from the womb, or something else, but it is strange to think about. Perhaps we did have another level of consciousness before birth, it is just that those memories are written in a different format so are inaccessible to our present operating system.

Or as you say, maybe just nothingness. c13.8 billion years of nothing, a brief flash of existence, then a further eternity of nothing.

It'll be the latter.

And in that brief flash we spend ages arguing on PH about stuff... biggrin

I wish I had asked my Mum.

She died for about 15 minutes after a heart attack. The paramedics got her going again (they were there within 10 minutes, although it seemed like an age). After a worrying and traumatic night at hospital, she was well enough to be on the ward the next morning drinking a cup of tea and having breakfast.

Her short term memory was not good, but by the afternoon, she was back to normal and apparently well enough to instruct the Drs that she wanted to be DNR if it happened again. My Dad had died a few years previously and she had a few health issues which impacted on her quality of life.

I spent a lot of time with her that day, mostly she was sleeping, but I didn't feel that it was the right time to go into detail as to what had happened and what she remembered. Although, I got the feeling that there was something she wanted to say.

Unfortunately she had another heart attack during the night and didn't make it.

Sometimes I do wish there was something after, like heaven and hell. If you lived a full and decent life you went to heaven. And evil fcensoreds like that nurse, human traffickers, paedos etc could be punished for all eternity. But, personally I feel once you're dead, you're dead! byebye

When I was 19 I had a really bad car crash, I thought I was dead, turns out I wasn’t

But I think you just die and that’s it

If you are being buried and there is a butterfly or robin about during the service , you are that of course wink

I’m sure every burial I’ve been to someone says that

Frederick emails to say he has four children. He is the proud father of a new baby boy, Joshua, and his daughter, Susan, five, has just started school. And he thinks after death, there is NOTHING.

No we won't. We'll be dead, so won't be able to find out anything.

100% this. I know exactly what it's like to be dead. It's the same as what it was like for me during WW1. I didn't exist.
