Not being in Switzerland he may only get a fine, but it could be means tested. He may be issued a court summons and disqualified from driving for 3 months or more.

A friend of mine got an on the spot fine and then a second much larger fine in the post when he got back to the UK. He hasn't paid the second fine, but if he gets caught in Switzerland he can be done for it. Quite a clever move by the Swiss basically saying f
k off out of our country and don't come back.

A friend of mine has been sent a letter from the Swiss authorities saying he was speeding. He was driving a German registered rental car and doing 34km/h over the limit outside towns.
What's the likely outcome from here for him?
And yes, this is actually a friend and not me!
I’d be cancelling my credit card that I rented the car with. And not going back to Switzerland. 34kmh over the limit over there puts you into serious fine territory. What's the likely outcome from here for him?

I won’t drive in Switzerland- penalties are very harsh and, despite what people on here might say, honest mistakes can be made in an unfamiliar car with unfamiliar traffic signage etc. Last time we went to Morzine Mrs DS was driving and yes, she got a ticket - luckily only 7kmh over the motorway limit. God knows how as we were ever so careful. We had eyes on stalks making sure we were legal.
