A friend of mine is an advisor for military film and TV programmes. He sometimes gets asked to provide uniforms and extras for productions, and I must have carelessly mentioned that I wouldn't mind being an extra, if he ever needed one...

Oops! Tomorrow I shall be taking part in a meticulously re-enacted WW1 battle - and whether I shall be British or German, officer or grunt, or live or die is unknown. Even my friend can't say as he's not directing.

So I'm off tonight for a uniform fitting and if you never hear from me again, you will know what happened!

Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye.
Cheerio - here I go - on my way...

Take some newspapers, magazines, and a bag of food and stuff.

Film work can be very very dull, you'll be sat around most of the day.

Thank you luvvies!

I'm back for a bit, having spent two hours in a splendid old barn somewhere in England... but it looks remarkably French. Haven't seen the ruined village yet but I hear it's excellent.

The trousers fit, the boots fit (with some very thick socks), tunic is getting buttons sewn on, helmet is stupid but that's how they were; will do battle with puttees and webbing tomorrow. 6am start At least I know how to use a rifle

So - unto the breach we go chaps - and the remarkable thing is that there's already a cameraderie springing up amongst us, Khaki Devils and rookies alike.

Will be back tomorrow night... hopefully.

I have done some extra work in the past... As a student it is pretty good - about £60 for the day, free food and mostly sitting around and chatting. Early start, yes, but at this time of year this is quite pleasant You get to meet some interesting/pretty people too.

Any idea what the programme is and when it'll be on? Apart from the fascination of trying to guess which one's you when I've never set eyes on you, WW1 is something of an interest for me.

See if you can get a lead actor to admit he was in the SAS and that it really stands for Super Army Soldiers ("Extras" reference for those who haven't a clue what I'm on about.)

My old grandad was the hangman in a terrible, terrible film made at Dover castle. The "Lady and the Highwayman" I think it was called.

He was also a peasent in the same film. I have a copy somewhere.

Enjoy it mate, sounds like a giggle.

I`ve heard rumours he came to grief when he tripped over a tripod and his subsequent colourful language got him sent off set as he didn`t have a speaking part!
