Looking for some advice re: the relative sound levels of the following cars:

  • 991.1 GTS
  • 991.2 GTS (pre-GPF/pre-Sept 2018)
  • 981 Boxster GTS
  • 981 Spyder
While I've heard all of them in isolation, I haven't had a chance to compare them side by side.

Does anyone know how they compare in terms of dB / loudness? And any problems at track days with PSE?

Been on a track day with a 981 Spyder and GT4, as well as my 991.1S and a 991.1GTS. All sounded magnificent with lots of snap crackle and pop on overrun. Not deafeningly loud and no issues with noise from race control.

The turbocharged 718, 992 and 991.2 cars were all much more muted, embarrassingly so I’d say. The 718 GT4 was also a lot quieter than the 981 cars.

My 981 Boxster gts with pse has just come in at 102db on the goodwood static noise test. I’d expect both 981’s to be similar, they are loud cars (when the valves are open at least)

Did the test as I’m planning to book a day soon, so it will be the 105db days

A 981 Spyder will trip the drive by noise limits at Bedford.

I know that the 991 (both .1 & .2) GTS have the pops & bangs in Sport mode but they're (mostly) off in Sport Plus.

Does they 981 (Boxster GTS + Spyder) have the same or that's a 991-specific feature?
