I'm confused on the bit between getting investment and then producing cars then running off with the money. Why not just get the investment then run off with the money without producing thousands of cars?

If I’m understanding the question;

They clear giant areas of land, removing the ability of tress and bushes to prevent landslides and help control water flow in to rivers, but the run off has to go somewhere?

I think that’s fairly QED. Like when we build housing estates on flood plains and simultaneously prevent farmers dredging streams and ditches crucial for drainage.

My thought is that the greatest part of a car's carbon footprint is when it's built, not to mention all the Lithium in the batteries.
To do all of that purely to put them in a field to rust away so that they can lie about how many have been sold does not seem to me to be helping the climate situation

For an ICE the biggest part of the footprint is in its use. For an EV it's in its manufacturing.

They say its 10k cars. That's bugger all in big scheme of things (like climate change). I don't see them rusting away either, they can be sold.

Yet your assumptions are once again very wide of the mark.

When you burn 1 ton of petrol you produce just under 3 tons of carbon dioxide.

1 ton is about 250 gallons, or say 1 year’s worth of fuel.

After 15 years it’s 45 tons, which is about 85% of a petrol cars lifetime footprint of 55 tons.

An EV used in the UK this decade will reach about half that by its end of life.

In two or three decades time it will be about a quarter of the petrol car’s lifetime footprint.

A typical EV contains about 10 kg of lithium.
