Obviously PH for rare/expensive stuff, but looking for a bit of a jalopy at the moment and it's a pain in the neck.

I prefer buying privately and secretly wish there was still a yellow paper, but that ship has long sailed. Autotrader seems to be dominated by dealers, Facebook is full of obvious scams with usually attractive young women apparently selling cars for half their value, Gumtree seems to have died the death and eBay seems useful for some specialist stuff but light on general vehicles.

I know you've always had to pick through a bit of chaff but there seems to be not much else at the moment.

Where do you look for stuff these days?

Good stuff often comes up in those classic car papers in WHSmith etc…

With the seller feedback on display, plenty of space for detailed descriptions and photos, i most often use Ebay. Then Autotrader. FB and Gumtree i tend to avoid.

Autotrader is the only place I have success with. I just select private sellers only, there's much less of them than dealers, but the quality seems higher than ebay.

I don't see many private sellers on PH, the few that do pop up are always massively optimistic on price.
