67 Cayenne - Warranty extension or not?
Discussion
I have a '67 Plate Cayenne 4.2 V8 Diesel S with a manufacturer's warranty which is about to expire. I'm on the fence as to renewing or not. I'm wondering about the reliability of the car from a warranty perspective. Are there common/known faults that would make the warranty cost effective over a 5 year period. I'm planning to take it down the independant specialist route for maintenance long term and would appreciate some feedback from people with similar experience.
It would impact on value, if sold privately.
It takes a brave buyer to buy a used 10 year old Cayenne privately, without any warranty - unless the price justifies it.
However, I think the biggest difficulty is predicting the price of any cars, especially petrol/diesel, in 4 years time. A lot is likely to change as we approach the uncertainties of 2030

I kept the extended Porsche warranty going on my old 4.2 diesel.
Paid for itself twice over when the turbo actuators went at about 6 years and 120,000 miles, engine out job.
Paid for itself three times over a few months after when the panoramic roof frame cracked and filled the boot up with water, nuking all the infotainment!
I think you can renew up to about that mileage and 8 years if my recollection is correct.

How long do Porsche keep offering warranties on customers cars? Do they limit it to the cars 10th year and after that it ends, or can it continue?
To rephrase the above, is there a maximum age of a car where Porsche stop offering an extended warranty?

You can renew up to 120 k miles and I think they cover cars up to 15 years old. My 2017 plate Cayenne has done 130k miles...at 120k miles I put four years of warranty on it so I've got cover for another three and a half years at which point I will sell it with six months warranty on it.
I think the Porsche warranty is cheap if I am honest and I would rather have that and the cost of OPC servicing than have an Indy work on the car and have the risk of running the car out of warranty. The car has never had anything major but I had it fail to start once (immobiliser fault), Air PASM sensor failed (rear suspension was locked the high position)...both of those were flat bed to OPC jobs. I recently had another fault which I can't remember, ber now but the OPC said it shouldn't have happened on a car being used like ours is and they covered it on a goodwill basis...wasn't DPF but something was clogged that shouldn't have been. I don't think it is that bad on a 130k mile car.
The Porsche warranty has been the same price for years....personally think that at some time in the next year they will put the price up significantly as which point people will say "if only"
They're great cars especially the S Diesel...it's a fabulous engine.
