Suggestion for large round air filter? Mod for grit blaster
Discussion
Hello,
I have a Clarke (Machinemart) grit blast cabinet. This is a useful bit of equipment however the one problem is that it is fitted with a small air filter that clogs fairly quickly, especially after you have cleaned it several times. The grit then starts coming out of the lid which is not great.
In the past I would have just gone into Halfords and found the biggest round air filter on the shelf then created an adaptor with some plywood sheeting and a length of vacuum cleaner hose. As you are aware you can't do this now.
Any ideas on a car that has a nice big round air filter that I could use so I can get a part number? Failing that, a website that shows you the item without the requirement for a registration number.
Cheers, Chris

Tempest,
for this application, wouldn't a "cyclone separator" be better than a filter? They are designed for large, heavy dust particles, and you don't need to replace filters.
See the Wiki for background (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclonic_separation) and online (EG https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cyclone-Collector-Collect... ) for a working device. If you are handy enough to set up a separate housing for a filter, you could surely do this!

Thanks for all the comments. I have gone with a Cortina filter.
so far I have a proof of concept setup using several layers of 4 mm ply to keep things light.
I also designed a 3d printed tapered adaptor for the vacuum hose (a spare one that had been in the garage for a while in case it came in handy for something) to filter. This is to hopefully make it easier to shake the grit out of the filter and back down the hose. However this will take about 28 hours to print so I'm going with the simple ply set up to see how it works.
I had contemplated something like the centrifugal seperator but have too much "domestic" stuff to do around the house at the moment.
Photos to follow.
