Is it just me or does anybody else notice that Chinese car makers seem to be widely ignored by the PH team.
With hot stuff like HiPhi Z on the market or brands like XPeng, BYD (not to mention their Yangwang subbrand, for instance) and SAIC with a plethora of subsidiaries being very active, I find it hard to understand why I have to visit websites like carnewschina.com to stay informed.
Yeah I know there's a new Passat and some near-dead brand created a recreation of former glory "oh we were so damn hot back then".

Whether we like it or not, it appears that while US-based car makers have set trends in the 1950s to 70s and Japan since then, it's now China we have to look for the mainstream and beyond. Do we want to continue not looking?

Perhaps they have some integrity? Given their human rights abuses and general yness I think most of us would prefer to minimise what we consume from that sthole. It’s unavoidable for a lot of things but absolutely zero chance I’d buy a car from a manufacturer owned by the Chinese government, no matter how good it was.

Because they are pretty ste? This is a site for car enthusiasts and those who like driving.

I am yet to see a properly fun car come out of China but that's not their focus.

Literally everything you buy is either made in China or has a component which is made there. So your argument is kinda moot.

It is very easy to avoid buying cars made by companies with links to the Communist Party though, isn’t it?

Any sensible person would avoid them at all costs.

He's covered that. Yes, it's impossible to avoid it, but I can avoid giving £30k (whatever) to a Chinese company for one item. I'm sure this microphone on my desk has £3 of Chinese stuff inside it but the other £47 doesn't go to them. Same goes for the other crap in my house.

Ultimately, I can choose to reduce the amount of money that heads in that direction. And that includes by buying used or not buying stuff at all unless absolutely necessary.

Hence why I wrote that it’s unavoidable for a lot of things. But buying whole cars built by Chinese companies that are owned by the Chinese government is entirely avoidable. Fortunately they’re st as well, which makes the decision even easier.

I was in China last week and why anyone would want a car that has ‘Build your dreams’ scrawled across the bootlid is beyond me. They all look like cheap imitations of better quality Asian / Western products.

I'll have to dig out some photos from my recent trip. Some fantastic looking cars there. XPeng P7 probably being my favourite. I've mentioned elsewhere but VW are losing market share over there due to the appeal of the modern domestic offerings.

If they come over here and the prices are right, they will sell.

Yeah, it’s a nope from me. At least paying a non-China company I can minimise tax revenue to the CCP.

I don't see any difference to the 1990's when thousands of folks were driving round in Longbridge's finest. It's the name of a domestic car brand.

I was in China last month on a business trip. I would say 70% of the cars I saw were local Chinese brands, most of which I had never heard of. There was a few Toyota, VW, Kia, Hyundai, and Nissan although strangely I don't think I saw one BMW or Mercedes!

Its likely that more and more Chinese brands will be sold in the UK, particularly as we enter the electric era.

Buy an expensive thing from China? I'd rather pay more for a Western/Japanese version, largely because of quality concerns and also because China has little human rights and zero animal rights. I have bought cheap tat from China though.

Arguably the best family EVs at the moment are coming out of South Korea.

After Googling a picture of the "HiPhi Z", I've decided to kill myself.

A product not designed and owned by a Chinese company.
