Hard to believe it is less than 2 years ago that we were all rich, interest rates were rock bottom, Rolex's could not be had for love nor money and everything was selling at a premium.

Fast forwarding to today, we are all skint, interest rates are through the roof and (presumably) the supply of new Rolex is starting to ease up. Just wondering if many people have had the call and thought, you know what, that boat has sailed, I'll give it a miss thanks?

My guess is that the people who could afford Rolexes two years ago aren't the type to have been materially affected by the Cost of Living Crisis.

I think that’s exactly who has been affected.
The ones not been affected are the ones who would drop the price of a premium car or even a property
on a watch.

I suspect that there are plenty of people out there turning down watches from Rolex. But I reckon it's more because there isn't anywhere near as much short term profit to be made from flipping them, and some watches that were being flipped for a profit during the crazy days would now lose you money.

Yes, for a YM37 plat for the missus pre-empting a significant birthday a couple of years away. First time I’d ever been in the AD. Got the call within 2 weeks, but wasn’t ready to pull the trigger there and then so passed it up. Realise it’s not an especially sought after variant, but still. Took me by surprise.

I don’t agree with that, but I don’t think it really matters. There were huge numbers of people who flocked to Rolex not because they wanted one but because they wanted something worth more than they paid for it, and they bought everything to have a chance at getting one of the really sought after models.

That’s largely gone away now.

Cozzie livs is a very realistic reason for the knock backs. Especially amongst the high credit usage / Turkey teeth crowd who could afford the credit card payments two years ago but can’t now.. especially as the leases are up on the merc and beemer

I'm going to be saying no should I actually ever get the call, 18 months so far and 2 previous Rolex purchases with the AD. That 18 months has felt like an extended cooling off period tbh, both in terms of seeing what's happening with cost of living and also realisation (having previously been a bit myopic) there are some lovely pieces from JLC and even VC I could instead get with considerably less hassle. So ultimately it'll cost them a sale (I'm sure Rolex will cope of course).

Tell them that the waiting list for a Casio was only a few weeks so you went for that instead.

I picked one up a couple of weeks ago but only because it was unopened. The factors you mentioned mean that I would, under no circumstances, accept an exhibition piece. It seems silly to buy an ex-demo at full price when there will surely be a pristine one available soon enough.

But if you're the type of person for who image is so important why not just buy a fake?

My experience of this crowd has been that they are real watches, bought in credit.

Can they afford the monthlies is another matter.
