Is this is trick question

10700

22% of 10700 is 2354

10700 - 2354 = 8346

One way to do it:

100% - 22% = 78%

So

8346 / 78 = 107

107 * 100 = 10,700

To try and answer your question about what number you need that when 22% is deducted giving you 8346, you need to raise 8346 by 78% to give you the final number across this three number calculation.

So 8346 divided by 0.78 = 10700

10700 times by 0.22 = 8346

This is a very easy way of working out percentages either way.

I have helped people with discalculus problems before and have tried to listen to your actual question. The answer is a simple number that other people have given you. I am not saying you have discalculus I just used past experience to try and explain a question that might not just be "a maths question".

Thanks for your help. This is actually related to an insurance claim. My insurance company has been so opaque with the numbers and I have been trying to make sense all day. I am brain dead.

Not sure you've worded that well. Raising 8346 by 78% gives £14,855.88

8346 is 78% of the number you want to find. So divide it by 78 and multiply it by 100.
