Hi fellow travellers,

I have a work trip to Ft Lauderdale next May and my gf and I would like to combine it with a few days (up to a week) of holiday before.

I know there are a few Florida aficionados here - is there anything much to see/do in Fort Lauderdale or are we better off elsewhere?

Not adverse to staying somewhere else in the US and then flying into FL for the work part, though Florida is on our list so would like to see it.

No set budget, we like “Americana”, eating & drinking good local food (but not necessarily Michelin *), being by the ocean, walking around historic neighborhoods, unique activities (e.g. would like to try an air boat) etc.

If anyone knows them, I also really like the Carl Hiaasen books and wouldn’t mind exploring the “zany” side of Florida…

All ideas and recommendations are welcome.

Thanks!

No. At the very least head to Miami, though that in itself has an appeal for some and not all. Down to the Keys?

May would normally see you coincide with the Air and Sea Show, fantastic event . Definitely worth adjusting your stay to see it.

Been twice , last time there was a million people on the beach , watching all sorts of military aircraft.

Other than the above, I can’t think of anything to say about the place, we were there because my wife used to organise a huge conference there.

I went to a meet in 2021 when I was in Miami, was there for around 5 hours looking around, it was a huge turnout

years ago it was rather pleasant to cruise the canals in/around Ft Lauderdale for an afternoon
