I had a reliable Volvo. I needed excitement. A Citroen C6 for £2k came up. I had always wanted one. I needed this one. 12 month MOT, paperwork detailing every bit of work done on it in its entire life, and top spec with the TGV rear seats. The right colour combination, too - black over cream.

I collected it yesterday and so far it's been quite well behaved for one of these. By which I mean it's only pinged four warning lights on:

- The engine management light comes on if you try to floor it between about 30-50mph. It goes away again after a couple journeys. I'll just drive around it.
- The ABS, traction control and handbrake lights come on together intermittently. I suspect it's a duff ABS sensor.

The aircon is borked and there's no sound from the speakers. A specialist will be enlisted tomorrow to investigate and hopefully to fix without too much aggro or expense. He can have a look at the intermittently not working information screen as well.

On the plus side, everything else works - all the electrics, the suspension, the gearbox, the engine (EML aside).

It's ridiculous, it's not very practical, it costs a bomb to tax and it's already a bit broken. I love it.

Love a big Citroen and fair play for taking it on,still hanker for an XM but I know it would be a constant work in progress with no ending…

Looking good. Which engine?

Hope the list of issues can be persuaded to shrink rather than grow.

Magnifique !

I wanted to buy the Wife one of those to replace her Jaguar XJ, but having sat in one she didn’t like them, so I bought her a C5 estate instead.

I’d still really like one though.

2.7 diesel V6. I like it. Plenty powerful and torquey enough for the car without being hooliganish.

The TGV rear seats are *awesome*. My stepdad hopped in the back as soon as I got to my folks' earlier so we could go for a drive!

I really like these, but I'm put off by being almost only diesels. Have long wanted an XM but never been brave enough!

I'll keep track of this as I've been hankering after a C6 for a while. Had three XMs as a daily driver (2.0, 2.0 16v and a 2.1SED) over a decade or so and always liked them. The fundamentals were reliable (especially the diesel engine and the hydropneumatic suspension) but some of the electric connectors were a bit suspect. ABS sensors and electric window mechanisms were regular-ish bugbears.

What's this seat thing about then? Never heard of TGV.
French train company - perhaps you always have a seat booked on them as owning a citroen means your likely to need it....
i jest.

hope it all goes well OP

hmm i wonder , can you imagine [insert british car marker here , if we still have one] putting in MIDLANDS RAILWAY seats in there cars.....

Brave but brilliant purchase.

Love these things. Arguably, the last "proper" Citroën

These quirky French barges attract rather more love as old sheddy barges than they ever did as new cars. Looks a great buy, nice work.
