So servicing a (new to me – VFR800) at the weekend. Have done 110 miles since picking it up, just to really check all is OK and to run the fuel out of the tank. Bike has been with last owner for 11 years (only done around 1k miles during his ownership - garaged) and not moved since covid.

Lifted the airbox cover… What the…??? Have never seen this, how have coffee beans got into the airbox..?

Someone has suggested, it might be to deter rodents, etc, but have never seen or heard of this.

Anyone..?

That's really odd.

I saw something similar in a Suzuki once, but that was a 2 seater convertible.

You sure they're coffee beans?

Rodents; mice, squirrels etc. often make nests/food stashes in car/bike airboxes and other places.

My Sister had mice nesting/stashing in her car and the little bastids chewed part of the wiring loom away.

Nope... No smell at all. Nothing out of the ordinary. Happy to report nothing else strange found around the bike either. No signs of anything behind the fairing panels (once they were removed) or under seat. All looks immaculate to me. Just like the owner said, garaged for most of it's life, even the forward headers are 'pitted' free.

Bizarre..!!? silly

That's probably not what the OP understood about the bike, when the seller told him he's given the beans a couple of times.
Turns out he got a proper Café Racer.

Helps put off sniffer dogs at customs when you're bringing in a couple of keys.

Thats so random! Seeing the original header I thought this is mice droppings but that does look like coffee beans!

If you get caught you'd better enlist the services of a top barista.
