Ran over a bolt on my way to work this morning. The tyre isn’t too old with plenty of tread left but am I being optimistic in thinking a puncture repair might be all I need?

Depending what the inside looks like should be fine.

Provided it measures more than 10% of the tyre width from the sidewall it looks like it should be repairable.

That is assuming it hasn't been driven on when flat to cause internal damage.

Thread update time. Unfortunately a puncture repair wasn’t possible. The bolt was larger than the plug so despite their best efforts, the tyre isn’t airtight.

I’m now trying to source a replacement but have come across two options for seemingly the same tyre. I want to replace like for like, so I’m after a Michelin Primacy 4, and have the option of an S1 or S2. Does anyone know the difference?

Must have been a big bolt!
What type of plug did they try to use?
Chap I use uses this type: www.tyrebaydirect.com/product-category/tyre-consum... go up to a 14mm stem.

I want to say 6mm. My understanding was the relevant BS standard prohibits repair of anything larger. I’ll phone around - the alternative is £120 for a new tyre!

Had almost the same on mine on a brand new blddy tyre and was not repairable, the noise it made driving was horrendous.

Ouch! I’ve got to admit, it got a few looks as I pulled into the car park. Looking like replacement is the only option now.

Just replace with the same as the others, assuming there is a marking to say which.

Unfortunately not. I’ll call tomorrow and see what they suggest. Huge thanks for your help, all!

A quick google implies the 4+ (as Michelin call it) was started in production from week 13 of 2021, so this is likely what you will get.

Interesting. The 4+ is listed alongside the Primacy 4 S1 and S2. I’ll call tomorrow and see if there’s a way of identifying what is currently fitted as well as the most appropriate replacement.

Update: The difference is the compound, the S1 is harder wearing, whereas the S2 is softer and therefore offers a little more grip.

S2 is mentioned on the sidewall of the punctured tyre (alongside WR2?) so I think we’ve found our replacement.
