Euro 6 Skoda Kodiaq

Dear readers,

I’m considering to part ex my 2011 BMW X5 (which is not Euro 6 compliant) for a Skoda Kodiaq (Euro 6 compliant). Budget approx £20k.

I have also looked at VW Touareg (2016-17) but these seem a little more expensive.

Has anyone owned a 2016-18 Kodiaq? I have three young kids so two car seats will be fitted with isofix on the two outer rear seats and a booster seat hopefully snugly fitted in the middle?!

Skoda seem better value all round to me.

I'd suggest taking a good look at the Peugeot 5008, personally I feel these are a better car than the Kodiaq (not that the Skoda is a bad car) overall.

What happened with the Touareg you put a deposit on?

We are just selling our 2018 Skoda Kodiaq - dealer collects it on Thursday. It’s been a great car. With 2 isofix seats in the outer seat positions a booster in the middle might be tight - try it out in one first. The diesel is not especially economical on shorter town journeys and will spend a fair amount of time doing regens, that reduces economy even more. Great on a decent run though.

VW Tiguan AllSpace is the same car, and the top spec models are very high spec and seem to have depreciated more than the Kodiaq. They are not so well packaged inside either so the booster seat is possibly even more marginal.

Class leader in what ? Galaxy is much more family friendly

If you need 3 child car seats do your homework carefully as there are very few cars that accommodate 3 car seats across the rear. Mostly they are very large SUV or MPV type cars with 3 individual seats.

We had a Kodiaq 1.5 with DSG for two years from new (great lease deal offered).

Owned many cars over the years but the Kodiaq in terms of fitness for purpose - all round family hack, accommodating MTBs probably the best car we have ever owned.

No squeaks / rattles, everything worked perfectly, enough performance, economical (36 mpg over 2 years / 18k miles of mixed driving)

Waste of time sadly. There were several stone chips on the bonnet which were beginning to rust and the seller would not budge on fixing them. I walked away.

Yes I’m this hard as it’s easier than it sounds trying to establish whether two car seats and then a booster can all fit in the back without me driving endlessly to garages and paying ULEZ charges each and every time.

We have a 2017 4x4 2.0 Diesel Kodiaq and we've had it for about 2 years now.

It is a great car, good for the kids, decent size boot (although my Superb easily matches it) and very capable for everyday family life. My wife had some very exacting requirements because she wanted to be able to tow a horse trailer and horse; which this can do with ease.

She also has a bad back following a nasty crash years ago; the seating position and seats are surprisingly different to the Tiguan. She needs lower back / lumbar support and she was much more complimentary about these than the VW equivalent.

The dealers however are.....not the best. She wanted some warranty work doing before it ended and had a really bad experience. Really long lead times, very few courtesy cars available, almost no communication from the dealer etc etc.

We just got back from a trip to France on Monday - roof box, 4 bikes on a tow-bar carrier, boot full, and it sat very comfortably at exactly 130km/h the whole way there and back.

What I would say, is that the lane assist is a bit aggressive/annoying. We live in a fairly rural spot, so the car simply doesn't fit on very narrow lanes, the lane assist is constantly trying to force you to stay the "correct" side of the line, regardless of how wide the lane is. Not the end of the world, but frustrating!

You will have the best bet for 3 across with Citroen C4 Grand Picasso, Peugeot 5008, VW Touran/Sharan, Seat Alhambra, Ford Galaxy/S max, Volvo XC90, Audi Q7. For almost anything else you'd want to try your seats in then before committing to buy.

I can fit 2 25kg rear seats plus an isofix base infant carrier or likely another 25 kg seat all across the 3 seats of a C4 Grand Picasso no problem. I've just done a holiday with 2 kids in the back with an adult in the third seat. The other good thing with the MPV style car is not just the ones with 3 individual seats but the ones where each seats slides independently. This gives much more flexibility to fit seats. Most other bench seat style have 2 larger outer seats and a smaller middle or at least the shape of the rear bench pushes and positions the outer seats to be further inwards ie taking space away from the middle.

Yeah should be fine. Look at the galaxy as well, same car just bigger in the back. I've got one, they're great for 3 kids.

When they get a bit older you'll want 2 in the middle and 1 in the rear, that separation stops the infighting. You still get plenty of storage space with the unused seats folded flat.
