I've had to abandon the car at the side of the road today due to an issue with the transmission. I'm moving the gear stick into the gear positions, but when I release the clutch there is no drive, just high revs.

Earlier in the day I was able to drive the car but when I put the foot down to overtake or go uphill the revs just climbed as if it has slipped out of gear. The gear stick remained in position. When I eased the throttle it continued to drive at low revs.

Now though it is completely gone. I've got a mechanic coming to recover it from its parked position on Sunday but does anyone have any ideas what's happened with it? Thanks

Sounds like the clutch is mullered.

At gentle driving, there is not enough torque passing through the clutch for it to slip. s you can crawl along carefully. Give it a bit more, the fried clutch slips.
