eBay cash on collection

I've bought a set of alloy wheels on eBay and have agreed with the seller to pay cash on collection when i go up next week (all arranged with him ahead of buying them).
The only issue is that eBay is sending me "Pay Now" demands and threatening that my account will have a non-paying strike put on it unless I pay via Paypal (which neither me nor the vendor wants to do, but eBay insisted it was offered when the wheels were listed)
How do I proceed?

I might be right in thinking hat the Paypal option is automatically put on by ebay?
I had this when selling something, despite me swearing blind I didn't select PayPal as a payment method and wanting cash on collection, the Paypal option was added and before ei knew it the buy had paid. Pi$$d me off a bit as the buyer could raise a false dispute and get their money refunded without me having a say in the matter.
Maybe message the seller, but i'd say it works in your favour as a buyer as Paypal (not friends & family option) gives you a level of protection for any possible refund needed, but they charge the seller a fee.

My friend recently sold a bike on eBay and there is a new sort of click and collect code the seller and buyer have to process, which marks it as delivered.
I am not sure if the buyer paid via eBay first but it is good that they have a mechanism to prevent buyers saying they haven't received it.

Like you I've collected loads of eBay items and paid in cash. eBay are basically so scared of you and the seller going into cahoots and selling outside of eBay and losing their commission and fees, so the system resorts to lots of payment warnings etc. If you're only collecting in a day or so the warnings are moot, but if you're agreed a longer timespan for collection then the warnings become more worrisome.
I think the main think is that the seller has to set the advert out correctly to allow for "Other payment method". If they haven't done that then that causes problems. There is meant to be a QR or 6 digit code generated so that the seller can scan or put it into the eBay app to confirm collection/payment and eBay get their cut, but in all my collections I've never had a QR code or 6 digit code.

I have messaged the seller, and he wants cash on collection. I don't have an issue with that at all, i just don't want a "black mark" on my eBay account as i use it a fair bit. A month back I agreed to buy a 120 year old car catalogue from the US using the make offer system on the basis that it would be shipped to my mate in NY and that the total would be $200 and paid by PP
The seller refused to send an invoice to that total, insisted for their protection that I changed my id to my friends US address which registered as a .co.uk user I could not and then said it had to come to UK with a shipping and taxes cost of another $70
I refused to pay and it dragged on for two weeks with plenty of ebay email and then I got a sale cancelled email from ebay but NFA

You can ask the seller to mark it as payment received but they would be daft to do so without that being the case. I had the same scenario when I sold a motorbike on ebay and the guy could only come next Friday and would pay by cash and then asked as he was being hassled for me to mark it as paid and foolishly I didThursday night I get an email - I no longer want the bike. Ebay being understandably convinced I was trying to get out of the £80 commission refused to believe that had happened and charged it anyway
I suspect you’ll collect them, hand over the money and then the fella will ask you to invent an excuse to cancel the transaction
That way he gets his 10% or so that would have gone to eBay

This is what I can't understand about PayPal - it offers the buyer protection, at the expense of the seller.... Numerous times I have had it when selling items, people pay via PayPal's 'Goods and Services' option thinking they've done very well for themselves, only for money to land in my PayPal account anywhere from £5 to £60 short of the agreed upon sale price. In the case of £5 I wasn't bothered, but for larger amounts it f
ks me off - and worst of all (unless lying through their teeth) every buyer I have raised this with has been completely unaware of this.Fortunately the buyers I have asked have stumped up the shortfall caused by PayPal, but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to work out that if this is explained in detail to the buyer when the 'Goods and Services' option is selected, it would be better for everyone. Hell, maybe even have a separate screen whereby you as the buyer type in the amount required to clear the seller's bank account, then PayPal can let you know how much you need to send so that they can rob their buyers' protection fees? Boggles the mind that they haven't/can't think of this for themselves (not sold anything via PayPal, sod's law the plebs will have implemented this very idea between then and now

You mean other than the fact eBay doesn't work like that? Infact nowhere works like that, the fact you believe it does explain why I've had some weird sellers get all shirty when offering to collect and pay cash and want paying with PayPal "for their protection". Why anyone would want to pay fees to be less secure than having actual money in your hand that can't be taken back later the mind boggles.Spare tyre said:
