May I have a recommendation please for a really good and current book that explains Probate and being the executor and trustee of a Will please .
I want to read up about this before I have to do the work and get a clear understanding of what needs to be done

There is a few on Amazon but I note some of them written in 2008 etc

Thank you

The Finance forum might be better for this.

It doesn't really answer your question directly, but there are several very good web sites that explain the processes involved.

For example, there's a 'What to do when someone dies' step-by-step guide on gov.uk (which should be up to date!). The Citizens Advice site has lots of useful info, too.

I haven't been involved in Probate issues for some years - but I think the basic principles of what is involved were already well tried and tested through decades before and have changed little over time. Any recent issues are probably just a bit of fine tuning so if it's an overview you seek then a suitable website should provide more than enough detail.

Quite. The standard textbook in Scotland dealing with estates is called Currie on Confirmation of Executors (confirmation being the Scottish term for Probate). It's now on its 9th edition, having originally been written over 100 years ago. It's not an area of law which tends to change much over time..

In fact, when I worked in the courts I had a textbook called "Forms for Sheriffs and Sheriff Clerks". It was written by George Sellars, Sheriff Clerk of Lanarkshire. In 1882. Many of the forms in it were still current.

The law doesn't change much in many areas over the years.
