Childhood ruined

When I was growing up we were taught a French song - Alouette gentille alouette
It sounded so nice, although at the time I didn’t speak any French. Just looked at the lyrics…oh dear god, it is about dismembering a poor Lark!
Any things you thought were innocent as a child (apart from 70s TV presenters), which you have since found out are not so?

If you can think of a better way to remember the dismantling sequence of a small songbird then I'm all ears! First the head, then the beak, then the eyes, then the neck

I'm sure most fairy tales and nursery rhymes have a darker side. A bit like a seaside town that you loved as a child and then went back to as an adult and your eyes were opened.
Yes, stories and rhymes were how we passed wisdom down through the generations. It is worth thinking them through or even reading a book on interpretations. How many people really understand the Emperor's New Clothes?
Or the meaning of "Jack and Jill went up the hill ...".
clue - it's not a nonsense rhyme.

The cat in Il était une bergère doesn’t come out of it too well, either! It sounded so nice, although at the time I didn’t speak any French. Just looked at the lyrics…oh dear god, it is about dismembering a poor Lark!

Asking a question as a 7 year old on a school trip to a farm, I was holding a new born male calf and feeding it from a bottle, I asked the farmer why there are so many more female cows than male cows. The farmer said that new born male calves were all called Bobby, the calf you are holding will be next.

Captain Pugwash and his crew. There would be "wokes" exploding all over the place if that was put out today. Mind you I'm not sure magic roundabout was as innocent as we thought..
Bit of a myth that one - the character names weren't what a lot of people seem to think that they werehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Pugwash

The people who scripted it didn’t either - they never bothered translating the original French programme, they just made up new stories and scripts to accompany the animation. DodgyGeezer said:

indeed - the Brothers Grimm's original tales are horrific How sausages are made, it’s a cliche I know and not very original, but working in a meat factory as a teenager and sweeping the floor hasn’t managed to ruin my taste for them but I know a few who it has for.
As one friend put it, he didn’t like throwing pigs heads into a blender. Slight exaggeration but point taken.
