I've researched various treatments for a rusty petrol tank.
Mine is 100% solid external with just surface rusted internally due to the car being stored for 20 years.
I don't think it needs the 'full treatment' - also I am lazy :-)
I would like to give it a very basic internal clean and then fit 2 cleanable fuel filters, one at fuel tank end and one at carb end.
Am I likely to get away with this, or do I really have to do the hard graft and fully treat the inside of the fuel tank?
TIA

Just a note of caution that I think this would lead to the first filter getting clogged very quickly!

I would vote try and get it as clean as possible, or get it cleaned by a pro somewhere..

Have you looked for / priced up a new tank?

Im guessing 40yrs old + when you mentioned carb. Wouldn't hurt getting a new tank.

If you want to be really lazy then do it properly the first time & you won't have to spend more time doing it again properly when the bodge introduces a lot of cr8p into the system.
Don't assume that the filters will get everything out.

As others have said, really not worth trying as if the st still gets through (and it will) then you will be in a whole world of pain.
