I have windscreen cover with 1st central and they've said that claiming won't affect my no-claims bonus but I just wondered for those that have claimed on their windscreen cover before (replacement screen not just chip repair) did your premium go up drastically the next year?

Normally claiming on the windscreen cover does not affect the no claims bonus or the next premium renewal.
I claimed for a screen on my classic policy. I even demanded that a genuine Mercedes screen was fitted by a Mercedes specialist. It did not affect anything.

I've got protected no claims, but the new windscreen that I had on the Merc has still been classed as a claim though. The insurance has gone up this year too, but that might just be because insurance does seem to be getting more expensive overall now anyway.

In 10 years my wife’s Fabia has had two windscreen claims (both cracks that started to grow). On the last one, the mobile fitter even had to call for a replacement to the replacement, because that had cracked on his preparation trestle! No increase in premiums for these windscreen claims.

I had an E36 for 19 years, and it had so many small chips, I was almost thinking of putting a hammer to it to get a nice clear screen again.

Had a BMW 5 series screen fitted through LV with a genuine BMW replacement through Autoglass which involved their top gun fitter on account of the cameras and gubbins in my car

The next premium renewal actually was less

I think more and more Insurers are classing glass claims as a claim and having an impact. Certainly windscreens are getting more complex with the need to reset and realign sensors and software in all the electronics from ACC, auto lights, auto wipers, lane departure etc.

Haven't claimed on a screen for decades, i get a local indy screen fitter to supply/fit, if you find the bloke the car/commercial trade uses (ask around) it can be an eye opener how cheap screens can be.

It shouldn't, although some do have an impact. Insurance will always be on the rise when there are people claiming because they can, not because they need to.

What gets me is that I have never claimed for a windscreen replacement or repair; I've done the work myself. Whenever I've asked for windscreen cover to be removed, 'computer says no' is always the answer.

I had to make 2 claims with my insurer (General Accident) although that was for 2 separate cars and a few years apart; the second one was 24 hours after my policy with them started as a stone was flicked up and cracked the windscreen driving away from the dealer! In both cases there was no impact on my premium; I remember double checking the info at the next renewal and it showed I had zero claims the previous year.

I've just been getting renewal quotes on Compare the Market for our M240i, the best quote was £523 (Aviva). I then remembered we had a windscreen claim last July (stonechip near to edge, winscreen replaced). I didn't think windscreen claims affected your insurance but thought I'd better declare it. Same quote now £575. irked

That's bad luck. Reminds me of my Sister's experience. 2 screen in as many weeks on a brand- new car. On the 2nd occasion the fitter said (seriously) "I'm sure I know you from somewhere"

I almost had insurance on my van cancelled a couple of years ago due to me not informing them I had 3 windscreen claims in the past 5 years!
Insurance was taken via Compare the Market website, all sorted after a phone call and thankfully only charged an extra £30 ( I think it was)
Got Adrian Flux to quote for my van this year and asked if they needed the dates of windscreen claims, their reply....no thanks not something we take an interest in.
I gave them anyway just to be safe

An update - I claimed for the windscreen right at the end of a policy and then renewed with the same company and my premium did not increase.

I've just been on Compare the Meerkat and didn't realise until I'd finished that I had to include windscreen replacements in 2020 and 2022.

Price without notifying £335. Went back in and completed the claims section £335.

I've got two windscreen claims on my record currently, Dec 22 and Aug 23.

It hasn't affected the premiums of any of the four cars I drive, and one of the insurers doesn't even want to know about them

Thanks, was going to ask for a before and after comparison.

Good to know.

Old thread but maybe worth posting as it came up when I searched.

My insurance quotes for both our cars, which were on a multicar policy, increased by about £100 when I was a named driver on my wife's car and about £50 as the main driver, when I remembered to put in the windscreen replacement for my Mercedes, compared to when I hadn't mentioned the windscreen replacement. Some companies wouldn't even quote.

This was on compare the market. I went through to one of the cheapest quotes, Budget Insurance, and changing it on their site they wanted £120 extra just for declaring the windscreen replacement.

They said it will not effect your ncb!! but they have not said if it will increase your premium due to having a claim, i have seen severalinsurers that now ask if you have made any windscreen claims and this can increase premiums
