Basically I park on a street and my nearest public charger is a Tesco pod point/vw charger which is a 2 min drive (5 min walk).

My question is whether I can leave my car at Tesco, walk home, and walk back to Tescos around 2hrs later to pick the car up?

Surely I shouldn’t receive a FPN as the cars charging for less than the 3hr time limit and I’m paying for the charging

Why not read the signs that are in the carpark rather than ask people who can't see them to use their crystal balls?

If you’re within the terms of the car park rules I can’t see why not. Our local Tesco carpark and a couple other shops is limited to a three hour stay but people park there for free and go elsewhere on foot. Read the t’s and C’s on the boards scattered around the carpark

I did and spent the last 20 mins googling and have not found an answer. Some sites say have to shop in Tesco and come back. Although that was when it was free. Nothing clear online. Signs say follow Tesco guidelines which says 3 hours parking maximum

If you are under the three hour limit I can’t see why not.

You need to check how fast the charger is though, if it’s a 7kW or less you won’t get much charge, maybe 10-20% dependant on the car.

The chargers at the retail park near where I work are clearly marked as being for customers only; I don't know if Tesco is the same, or if they could even determine whether you are a customer.

Some of our staff leave school at lunchtime (1.30) and plug theirs in on the retail park, being able to retrieve them within the 3 hours (the morning session being well over 3 hours). They generally nip in to M&S and buy a sandwich or a drink to cover the "customer" bit just in case.

Yeah sadly haven’t got much choice where I live as it’s the only one in my area. The nearest fast’ish charger is 10 miles away from me.

Are any restrictions valid 24 hours? Could you charge in the evening or overnight for example?

You do realise that there are other modes of transport available, such as the legs you were born with, bicycles, scooters, motorbikes, buses, taxis and even cars with proper internal combustion engines that run on this stuff you can buy and dispense from a pipe called petrol and diesel ? Seems very much a first world problem.

Take a picture of the car park parking restrictions and as long as you rigidly stick to the terms then you will be ok.

Check especially for maximum duration and no return period and also make sure that you are not restricted to NOT leaving the retail park while charged.

If it's not on the sign then you can't be charged or fined.

10% in 3 hours? that's some battery!

Definitely a first world problem and I don’t think I gave the impression like I was complaining. Just asked a question lol

OK just seems a bit odd that you would have a leccy car without (apparently) any provision to charge it from your residence. I assume there is probably some back-story to how you've come to be stuck with a leccy car instead of a proper one that you could just fill up at a petrol station but I don't want to do the usual PH thing and drag your thread off-topic by enquiring, so I won't.

OP said, "Leave the car for two hours".

My car would be around 15% with charging losses on a 7kW charger if the charger was delivering 7kW, which is unlikely.

In all honesty, I wouldn't have an EV without home charging.

Agreed. My wife and I both have EVs and I wouldn’t go back to ICE for a daily, but I wouldn’t have an EV if I couldn’t charge at home.

Why did you buy an electric car then, may I ask?

You need to read the car park signs. Not all Tesco carparks have the same rules.
