Random one this…. Ages ago I was idly looking at Google Earth satellite imagery of the US. I came across a very strange road, basically a vast circle, in a desert, or at least an area with bare earth/not much vegetation. At the time I eventually found a very limited bit of info that indicated it was a site from the mid 20th century used, I think, by a tyre company for testing.

I was again idly looking for it recently and now can’t find any trace of info about it.

From memory it was like the Nardo ring circuit, maybe even bigger, but somewhere really isolated with no other ‘proving ground’ type roads near it. I *think* it had some of those strange circular irrigation places (I.e. bright green circles in the desert) nearby…

Does it ring any bells with anyone? It’s bugging me now!!

No, there was really very little around it and no other test roads, just a big circle a few lanes wide. Surfaced but not used in a long time by the looks of it, so not glossy black.

Large circular area, no vegetation, in the middle of the desert? Tyre testing facility? Landing area more like, wake up people!

BF Goodrich does ring a bell but I am sure it didn’t have the tracks on the infield that their site has…
