Inheritance From Canada
Discussion
My uncle emigrated to Canada in the early 1960's, I can remember him boarding a ship at Greenock on the Clyde, I would be 12 or 13.
He died in March 2018 age 90, sadly not found for a few months, then another few months before a will was passed to the Public Guardian and Trustees
of British Columbia in Vancouver in October 2019.
So after almost four years they are almost ready to distribute my uncles estate.
They suggest they can wire transfer the sum ($30,000 Canadian) to a UK bank account in either Canadian Dollars or UK pounds.
Anybody have any experience or thoughtson which is better ?

Depends on exchange rates/charges I guess
My Mum had the same only USA/UK. We found the best rate was to use her normal bank (Nat West) who arranged everything but overall worked out cheaper than using a specialist (possibly due to fewer links in the chain)
I ought to add it was over twenty years ago now so I'm not all that clear on the details, what I am saying is don't forget the obvious options

Use Wise it will save you a packet.
That is what I thought. As a test i sent CHF to my Wise account payable in EUR and the same CHF amount (from the same account) to my high street bank also payable in EUR. The high street bank gave a better exchange rate, not by much but it was not what I was expecting. The instruction to transfer the amounts were made within seconds of each other.
Cheers
