Hey...I'm new to the forum and I'm thinking of buying a 996 and wonder what they are like to live with daily

Also, does any body have any tips as to what to look for or what to avoid with this type of car....

Cheers for any advice

in a nutshell they are superb. buy a 2001 onwards with facelift and 3.6 engine. make sure it still has a manufacturers warranty and ALWAYS extend it (costs about £750 per year).

the carrera's and turbo can easily be used as a daily car, the gt2 / 3 / rs much less so.

don't worry about forum hype about things that go wrong. as a rule of thumb, if it's under warranty you'll be ok.

you will not regret getting one.

so what are you waiting for?

Even the GT2/GT3/RS are easy to live with generally, its just speed bumps and country roads that make them less practical. All of them are fabulous cars though.

Thanks for the info but I cannot stretch to a 2001 onwards model.....what would be the things to look for on, say, a 1998 C2?..

I'm biased, but I would say a C4

Depends what you want, but I'd go for a c2 over a c4 as I prefer a less diluted driving experience. c4s are safer though

In terms of a buyers guide, there are a few things you need to check but surely you'd be better off paying a specialist to inspect any car you are considering. I think there was a 3.4 buyers guide in a back issue of GT Purely Porsche, but I haven't got my mags to hand to check which issue Could maybe ring their backissues line and ask them which one.
