Happened to notice on the local news yesterday pm that the A11 into Norwich had been closed due to several cars receiving punctures.
The latest news is that a forgetful officer left a stinger device on the roof of his car and drove off.
We all make mistakes I suppose....

That wasn't a mistake, it was a pre-emptive intelligence led action based on the National Decision Making model.
Based on my question about innocent motorists claiming back the cost of new tyres in these circumstances there are going to be some really pissed off car owners around having to fork out for new tyres.

Honestly, the lengths some people go to in order to defend stupidity. It WAS a mistake. Norfolk Constabulary released a statement to say it was a mistake. They admitted that it hadn't even been deployed, only checked at the roadside, then the officers involved forgot about it. Words of advice were given and nothing else will happen to them. FFS, at least read the article which has a statement from the constabulary before jumping in to defend the idiots, or Google it to see if other news outlets are reporting it too:

Police are not some sort of gods. They're not immune from criticism. They make mistakes, like everyone else. The difference is, if I drive off with my coffee on the roof of my car, I don't irreparably puncture all 4 tyres of 4 cars with it. When I'm playing with more dangerous kit, I'm much more careful. With greater power and responsibility, comes greater accountability. If you're not capable or happy to be accountable for your mistakes and errors, don't do the job.
