My BMW was stolen from outside my house in London between Saturday and Monday, and after submitting a police report which was promptly closed due to lack of evidence, I received a call from Kent Police saying it had been spotted by ANPR on the back of a trailer.
What are the chances of getting it recovered? I'm assuming it was headed straight for Dover/Folkestone to get out of the country. Can I realistically expect the police to do much about it?

Short answer: no.

Sorry to be dismal but expecting any police force (particularly the Met) to do anything about crimes about possession is a waste of time. Get a crime report and claim on your insurance.

Don’t most stolen cars end up in a lock up where they get broken for spares, sold on eBay?

In a weeks time, you might be able to buy you car back. Part by part.

By now it’ll be in Eastern Europe somewhere, I’m
afraid. Time to claim on insurance.

Didn't the police explain what they were going to do when they called you about the ANPR ping?

"Hello Mr Loki - ANPR has just seen your car on the back of a trailer"

"OK thanks - bye then".
